Thinus Lombard
I was born in Magaliesburg district and grew up in Krugersdorp, Johannesburg South Africa.
I have been very interested in painting, drawing and music from a very young age.
Because of a slight hearing problem, I focused more on painting, although I am still very passionate about music and play guitar whenever possible.
After I matriculated I started working in the Insurance Industry and focused on building a career, not knowing that my life was about to change completely.
I was invited to attend an art class and was so enchanted by the experience that I knew I had found my calling.
I received private tuition in basic art techniques from various teachers, something I am very grateful for.
It was only when I started experimenting on my own with different mediums, techniques, colours and textures – learnt from studying the works of the old masters – that I developed into my own creativity, which is an ongoing process.
I see myself as a self-taught artist and I firmly believe that art is something that is born from the heart and not intellectually.
I also believe that art is to create and not to copy.
I find my inspiration in admiring the works of the “Greatest Artist” – God – who created all the beauty of this universe by merely speaking a word, and it was there in all its splendour.
I give unto Him all the glory and honour…
